This Week’s Devotional Thought

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 3:6

Would you go to a movie or read a book when you already knew the ending? Many people wouldn’t. Many would consider the book or movie ruined for them because now they know how it is all going to end. If you know the how the story ends, the highs are not as high, or the lows are not as low. If the ending remains a mystery, then the different plot twists add to the adventure and joy of the story or plot.

Paul today speaks to us about a mystery that is revealed. But, unlike a mystery that is found in a fictional novel or movie, this is a mystery that we want to know long before the end of the story. That is because we are a part of the story, the story of salvation. We need to know if we are saved or not from our sins so that we can know that when our end comes we will be going to heaven.

Paul says the mystery is that all people are heirs of salvation given by Jesus Christ’s work of saving us from our sins. This was true for the Jews and the Gentiles or non-Jews.

What is interesting is that this “mystery” was never meant to be a secret. The truth is that God had been clear from the very beginning that he was going to save the world. When he first promised that a Savior would come he spoke those words to our first parents Adam and Eve. God didn’t tell them that he was only going to save some of their offspring but all of them.

Your God has saved you too! Did you know that or is this still one great big mystery for you?

It doesn’t have to be. Your God wants you to know that he loves you, cares for you, wants to make everything work out for you whether you are going through good moments or bad, and he wants you to know that he has saved you from your sins.

That is why he gave us his Word in the Bible. He gave it to you so that you could know just how much he loves you. He wants you to see how dangerous your sins are but also, just how powerful his love is in how he paid for your sins, so you could be with him in heaven.

Many people feel that the Bible is up for interpretation or that you have to be really smart to understand it because it isn’t clear. The Bible is clear. It clearly says what is wrong and what is right. I clearly says, that your God loves you and has saved you. It clearly says that you have a home in heaven waiting for you. We may not understand how or why our God feels that way about us, but we know that he does clearly.

With the Bible we know the end of our story. We know that when we die we will meet our God. If we trust that our God is telling us the truth in his Word we will know that our meeting with God will be spectacular because it will end with us in heaven.

Happy to know that my salvation is not a mystery, just like you!
